Re: Lowy family in Kosice and Huncovce

I'm sorry, I don't really know off-hand right now. My mother הכ"מ died a few months ago, and she would have been my go-to person for this sort of inquiry. I would suggest getting in touch with my uncle Gyuri <gyuri1@gmail.com>  and/or with Yoseph Kedem <ybkedem@gmail.com> and if they have more information, please share.

Hello, I see you are researching the Lowy/Levy family from the above-mentioned towns. I have a large Lowy family from these towns, related to Rabbi Rafael Lowy who lived in Bardejov, Kosice, Huncocve and settled in Ofalu (Szepesofalu = Spisska Stara Ves = Altendorf). Some of the names are Mordechai Arie Lowy, Eliezer (Lazar) Lowy and many, many more. Do any of these ring a bell? Thank you!

Re: The JewishGen Family Finder:

Back in 2011, I married a very nice girl named Shira Deifik (a granddaughter of Sheldon Deifik) so I was having some fun doing some genealogical research. I don't remember finding any substantial, do you have anything?

Hello Mr. Klein,
I see that you researched my family name's history back in 2011. Could you please advise me of your interest and what you were able to determine about my family's genealogy, particularly in Horodenka.
Thanks,
Mark Deifik

re: Binyamin Eliezer Ungar-Auerbach

I just saw you message to me on geni.com from Nov. so I'll respond now. Basically, we don't know exactly how the Shenos Chaim is a descendant of the Remah, so we don't know if it's ben acher ben. I've spoken to many people about this--bottom line is that nobody knows. Regarding Binyamin Eliezer Ungar-Auerbach, apparently Ungar-Auerbach was our original last name and R' Reuven Chaim the first (author of Shenos Chaim) changed his last name to Klein because when he studied in the Chasam Sofer's Yeshiva in Pressburg, he boarded by a childless couple named Klein, so he took their last name in appreciation.

Managers of Binyanim Eliezer Eliezer Unger-Auerbach, Hi there. I would like to find out information about Binyamin Eliezer Unger Orbach. My husband is Tzvi Dov klein, Grandson of Moshe Ezriel Klein, Great gandson of Tzvi Dov Klein, great great grandson of Reuven Chaim Klein, who is the son of Binyomin Eliezer. I have two questions. Is my husband Ben achar ben of the Remah? and also, why was Binyamin Elizer's name Ungar-Orbach and then the name switched ot Klein? thank you so much. I am contacting you about this profile: https://www.geni.com/people/Binyanim-Eliezer-Unger-Auerbach/6000000... Sincerely, Tanya

Re: From Your Cousin Suri Leibowitz Silverman

Thank you for sending me the pictures, you know what they say: "Better late than never" (or in this case, "Better late than the late").

Indeed, the picture of your grandfather's matzeivah says he was a descendant of the Noam Elimelech. From what I've been told (from Max Steg), your grandfather is a descendant of the Noam Elimelech through his mother's side (Chaya Zlata Mermelstein nee Klein nee Friedman), and, as you probably know, that great-grandmother of yours is also my great-grandmother. Again according to Max Steg, Chaya Zlata's parents were Eliezer Friedman and Devorah Eckstein and it was the latter family which is reputed to descend from the Noam Elimelech, but that is the extent of what I know on the topic. So the question is if we know anything about the Friedman or Eckstein families and how, in specific, the Devorah Eckstein is a descendant of the Noam Elimelech. It would help if we knew anything beyond their names, like their parents' names (besides Eliezer Friedman whose father was apparently named Aharon Shmuel Friedman) or even which town they lived in (this is nothing new, I've been asking this same question now for years, but I like to repeat myself, maybe somebody will have the answers.).

Anyways, it was nice to hear from you and thank you again for sending me the pictures. Maybe one day we'll get some more information about all of this...

Hi. Back in 2015, you emailed me on Geni and asked about us being descendents of the Noam Elimelech. I told you I would send you pics of my grandfather's matzeivah. I know it's a bit late, but I did find the pics and I wanted to send them to you.

Have a wonderful week and Shabbos!

I'm not sure how much of a help Mr. Blau or his wife can be nowadays (their are at quite an advanced age), but I have basically assumed the mantle of family genealogist. We don't know much about the Kuttner family other than that my grandfather Meir/Majer/Mayer/Miksa Kuttner was the principal of the Orthodox School in Bonyhad, he was originally born in Mosonszenpeter, Hungar and had studied in the teacher's school in Papa. His wife was named Devorah. His parents were Joseph and Lotte Kuttner. He had a brother named Sandor.

Meir Kuttner had three daughters who survived the war: Sara Blau, Gyngi Barany, and my grandmother Rose Klein (who died 2 weeks ago). He had two sons who perished named Moshe/Marcell and Yosef/Yoszef and a daughter named Esther/Edit.

Does any of this match up with the information you have for your family?
