My name is Alina Demeter. I am the great great granddaughter of Noam Elimelech. I am 45 years old, and I live in Seal Beach, California having immigrated in the 1970's from Bucharest, Romania. My father is Peter Demeter son of Reghina Schiff. Reghina Schiff was the daughter of Esther Schiff, and daughter of the youngest son of Noam Elimlech whose name I do not know.
I can be found on Linkedin, or on Facebook to communicate as I would love to learn more about our family.
The family story goes like this: Before WWII, Esther Schiff divorced her husband and left with 4 of their 5 children to Hungary and north Romania. All 4 children who went Esther Schiff (married name Elimelech) survived the Holocaust.
During WWII, Her husband and older son were murdered in the Holocaust but the rest of the 4 children survived.
Esther's married name was (as I just learned from my Father) was Elimelech, but she went by Schiff, her maiden name after divorcing.
Her husband was the seventh youngest son of Rabbi Elimelech of Lizansk Poland. My grandmother Reghina Schiff left a written memoir and told us of this story during her life. She is now buried in Jerusalem.
Last week, I mentioned that I am related to Noam Elimelech of Lizansk to one of my women friends who is Orthodox. We do weekly Torah study together on the phone for over a year and I had not mentioned this to her. My friend was so excited, she told me all about Noam Elimelech, then I went to her home for Shabbat dinner and her
brother told me more about R. Elimelech. I was fascinated.
I had to learn more about who I am and my family. I have also purchased R. Elimelech's book which is still in print on Amazon.com in order to do Torah study, and I have been doing some research on the Internet about my family history to find other relatives as Noam Elimelech had 7 sons of which my great grandfather was the youngest.
