Sorry, I don't have any more information for you, but I'll forward your email to my mother and we'll see what she says.

=======================================================
Hello. I am researching my paternal line. My 2nd great grandfather Max (Mordecai) Messinger (1861-1933) was a tailor in Manhattan who emigrated in 1884. His parents were Menachem "Mendel" Messinger and Sura Schnoll. I have had no luck finding any point of origin beyond the "Austria" listed in papers and immigration records. I have found a Mendel and Sarah with three children in Bardejov, Slovakia in the 1869 Hungarian Census but Max, who would have been 8, is not listed. I see three Mendel Messingers in the Mielec draft records, but they are listed as born in 1897. I spoke to a researcher in charge of indexing those records and I now doubt they are at all reliable. I am wondering if you might have any information about Slovakian Messingers that may be helpful to me. Thanks!
